North Texas warms up after cold start, 90s expected this weekend

Tuesday morning was cold, dipping to 35 degrees at DFW Airport and even reaching into the 20s for the outer counties. Luckily, temperatures have rebounded for a pleasant evening.

Grab a jacket because it will be chilly on Wednesday morning, but not as cold as Tuesday morning. The low will be in the 40s with a slight breeze. The warming trend begins Wednesday; highs will reach above average in the afternoon, topping out in the upper 70s. Winds will be from the southwest, gusting up to 20 mph at times.

A ridge of high pressure continues to build throughout the rest of the week. Highs will skyrocket above average and may potentially be record-breaking by the start of the spring equinox. Sunshine and 90s will be in the forecast this weekend, feeling more like summer than spring.

The forecast high for Saturday is 95°. The last time we hit 90° was on Oct. 20, 2025.

Record number of 90-degree days in March

  • 5 days in 1911 and 1916
  • 3 days in 1918, 1928, 1929

We had one 90-degree day last March, and in 2022 and 2017. The last time we had two 90-degree days in March was in 1974.

The last time we had three 90-degree days in March was in 1929. The last time we had three 90-degree days in a row was the first three days of 1918.

Above-average temperatures continue through March

A cold front will move through to start the next week with temperatures dipping a few degrees, but still staying well above average.

Get used to the heat; the Climate Prediction Center has high confidence that well-above-average temperatures will continue through the rest of the month.
