Dallas police are expected to release new details at a 3 p.m. briefing after an exchange of gunfire during a disturbance call at a Woodhollow Drive apartment Monday night left three people injured, including a Dallas officer.

Original story

Three people were injured, including a Dallas police officer, during an exchange of gunfire after a disturbance call at an apartment Monday night, the Dallas police chief confirmed.

At a news conference, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said that at about 8:40 p.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 4300 block of Woodhollow Drive after reports of an armed suspect who was allegedly threatening people.

When officers arrived, they went inside the apartment and heard a person saying, "he has a gun" inside the bathroom. Then, officers heard a woman from inside the bathroom shouting, "he has a gun, he has a gun."

Comeaux said that's when officers entered the bathroom, and gunfire erupted. Comeaux said during the exchange, "Two individuals were shot."

Both were transported to the hospital, where one underwent surgery, officials said. At this time, there's no word on their conditions.

Comeaux said two officers discharged their service weapons, and one officer was struck in the vest by a bullet and is expected to be OK.

Investigators said at least 10 people were inside the apartment when the disturbance began, and they believe that the two individuals involved in the disturbance are related.

The investigation is ongoing. CBS News Texas will provide updates as more information becomes available.
