Dallas man shot by officer after displaying firearm during traffic stop, leading police on chase through Collin County, officials say
A Dallas man was arrested after being shot by an officer during a traffic stop and leading police on a chase through Collin County Saturday, authorities said.
Just before 10:50 a.m., an Allen police officer initiated a traffic stop on a car with no rear license plate. During the stop, the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Rick Reamy, "made a sudden, furtive movement" and brandished a long gun from inside the vehicle, officials said in a news release.
The release said Reamy made an "aggressive statement" toward the officer and, in fear for his life, that officer retreated to the back of Reamy's vehicle and fired four rounds from his duty weapon.
After the officer fired his weapon, Reamy fled in his car, and Allen officers initiated a pursuit, which continued into Plano, officials said.
With the help of Plano police officers, stop sticks were deployed, puncturing multiple tires on the suspect's vehicle. It eventually came to a stop in a parking lot near the intersection of Park Boulevard and Coit Road.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found several firearms.
Officers also rendered immediate aid to Reamy until the Plano Fire Department arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Following treatment, Reamy was booked into the Allen Detention Center for aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading arrest or detention and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Police said no bond has been set at this time.
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation concerning the officer-involved shooting, officials said.
