City Strips Down Police Department
A small North Texas community is concerned about public safety after a city council decision to strip down their police department.
The council in Combine, which lies on the Dallas/Kaufman county line, held a special meeting this weekend. The outcome has a lot of residents upset, because 11 of the 13 reserve police officers that serve the town were let go. Reserve Officer Daniel Skurlock tells CBS-11 he's not as worried about losing his job as he is the safety of residents. But, Mayor Pro Tem Tonya Ratcliffe says the move was necessary to cut costs, but no one has said exactly how much will be saved. Two additional full-time positions may be opened up, but there's no timeline. Ratcliffe says the town of a couple thousand didn't need as many officers as it had, but many disagree, and now fear public safety will be compromised.
