City Raising Life-Sized Statue Of Actor Larry Hagman
PARKER COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – The city of Weatherford is planning to honor actor Larry Hagman with a life-sized statue.
Space for the statue has been cleared in the city's new Heritage Park. "In the park we're going to have the statue," explained Hagman's longtime friend Sherry Watters, who also detailed more about the park, "…it is supposed to have water fountains, supposed to have benches, trees and plants."
Hagman was raised in Weatherford and Watters says it was a special place to him. "He loved Weatherford. He grew up here. Mary Martin was born there, that's his mother. And with Larry's passing I thought it was only right to honor him."
The Larry Hagman Memorial Committee had clear ideas when it came to determining the appearance of the sculpture, which everyone agreed will be distinct. "It will be 6'1" -- his size," Watters said. "It will be where he's standing straight up, with his hands in his lapel like he always posed, with his cowboy hat on."

The Weatherford City Council has given their blessing for the project and a $70,000 fundraising effort is underway.
Larry Hagman, who was best known for his role as J.R. Ewing on the television show "Dallas", died on November 23, 2012. Hagman had recently revived his role as J.R. on TNT's new version of "Dallas." He died in a Dallas hospital, at the age of 81, after a long battle with cancer.
