DALLAS (CBS11) - Just days before Gavin Long shot and killed three police officers in Baton Rouge, the 29-year-old was in Dallas visiting barber shops.
Long visited at least three barber shops on July 7 in the Oak Cliff area where he introduced himself by his pseudonym, Cosmo Setepenra, and passed out his holistic health book titled The Cosmo Way, Vol. 1 The Detox.
Andre Hurd of Hurd's Barber Shop said Long came across as a young man"trying to do something positive with his life."
Hurd said Long never once mentioned violence or came across as being angry.
"He said I'm just trying to pass knowledge to our people so they can read and they can help one another and stuff like that," Hurd said.
Bryan Davis, of His and Hers Barber Shop, had a similar impression of Long when he visited his shop.
"I'm here to tell you man-to-man there was absolutely nothing that you could have picked out of his conversation to tell you he was radical," Davis said. "It's extremely scary to have a person like that, to come across someone like that, and then later on get this kind of news. That's unbelievable."
Davis said he was unaware that Long had video recorded his visit to His and Hers Barber Shop.
The video, along with Long's visit to Classics Barber Shop in Dallas, was later posted to a Twitter account that sources have told CBS News belonged to Long.
