Windy & Warm Holiday Day

Some clouds entered from the west and the winds picked up today; still very mild weather considering the calendar says January. Tomorrow is the holiday for many and highs should reach into the 70's. But the day will be marred by very, very windy conditions; a steady SSW 20-25 with gusts 35-40mph teamed with a cloudy morning.

BIG WINDS, LITTLE RAIN

Skies become overcast tonight and winds continue to be gusty and from the south. We'll have an overnight low that equals the typical daytime high this time of year, around 56°.  There could be a sprinkle or two towards morning but the meager rain chance that exists tomorrow is better to the east of the metroplex. Around Fort Worth and Dallas the skies will try to clear in the afternoon. A little bit of sunshine and those strong south winds will get the temperatures into the mid-70's. Not a record high but certainly in the ballpark (the record for tomorrow is 81°). Below you can see how the HPC puts a small amount rain around north Texas tomorrow, favoring the areas east:

COLD FRONT ARRVIES TUESDAY MORNING

Overnight lows will again stay in the 50's heading into Tuesday morning. The day starts cloudy and windy as a cold front sweeps through during the end of the morning commute. The temperatures will start to drop slightly into the afternoon, down to the low 50's with strong and gusty northwest winds. You'll need a winter coat by afternoon. Below you can see two panels, the one on the left is the surface temperatures at 9am tomorrow, the one on the right the dewpoint. Look to the left-hand corner on both and you can see the effects of the cold front sweeping in colder and drier air. This is a special MM5 model run by Penn State University:

COUPLE OF DAYS OF COLD, THEN BACK TO MILD

Highs Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon will be in the low 50's. The winds will diminish by evening on Tuesday as skies clear, this will allow lows to drop down into the upper 20's by Wednesday morning. The winds turn to the south by Wednesday afternoon and those south winds over the next four days promise unseasonable warm weather.

Thursday: Mostly Sunny, mid-60's

Friday: Sunny and around 70°

Saturday: Sunny and low 70's

Sunday: Partly Cloudy and around 70°.
