San Jose Police arrest prolific graffiti vandals
San Jose Police have arrested a man they say has been tagging downtown with graffiti since 2023.
Police Chief Paul Joseph says they believe Alex Garcia has tagged dozens of buildings with the word "GOOB."
Chief Joseph said, "This arrest is the result of dedicated, focused police work from our Central Division Patrol Officers, and it delivers a clear message: we will protect our city from those who choose to damage or deface it."
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said Garcia may be responsible for more than 70 incidents of vandalism throughout the city.
Mahan said, "Graffiti isn't just an eyesore, it's destructive — to small businesses, to community pride and even to public safety."
San Jose Police also announced the arrest of 19-year-old Josiah Lopez-Villalobos for 19 different incidents of gang vandalism. He was booked in the Santa Clara County Jail on gun and gang vandalism charges.
