Gina Rodriguez Of 'Jane The Virgin' Earns CW Network Its First Golden Globe Award

SAN FRACISCO (CW) You always hear the old saying 'It's an honor just to be nominated, and one look at the Golden Globes nominee roster shows you that's true. That's why it's so incredible that "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez took home the first ever Golden Globe award for the CW network.

The Golden Globes are selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who often like to identify up-and-coming talent.

Competing for Best Actress, Musical or Comedy, with Rodriguez were well-known actresses in popular roles including Lena Dunham (Girls), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) and Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black).

On Social media, Gina's was one of the favorite moments of the evening. Her uplifting message to the Latino community resonated with many.

During her acceptance speech Rodriguez told the story of how every day her father would repeat this mantra, "It's a great day. I can and I will."

As a nod to her dad, Rodriguez closed her speech with "I can and I did."
