Great Moments In Baseball History: The 1972 Oakland A's Bring World Series Title To Bay Area For The First Time Ever

The New York Giants moved west in 1958, and the Kansas City Athletics joined them in the Bay Area a decade later. Both franchises had enjoyed successes in the east, winning five World Series apiece in New York and Philadelphia, respectively. But the first 18 combined seasons in Northern California saw both teams come up short of the promised land. All that changed in 1972 when the Oakland A's won the first of three straight World Series championships.
