Woman dies after Stockton drive-by shooting, 1 other injured

A woman who was shot in a drive-by shooting in Stockton on Tuesday has died, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said.

Around 7 p.m., deputies were called to the 700 block of Gertrude Avenue for a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found two people who had been shot. Investigators believe it was a drive-by shooting based on preliminary information, the sheriff's office said.

The two victims were taken to the hospital, where one of the victims later died.

The woman killed was identified by the San Joaquin County medical examiner as 26-year-old Obdulia Sanchez of Stockton.

Sanchez was released from prison on parole in 2019 after she was found guilty of driving under the influence and live-streaming during a crash that killed her 14-year-old sister in 2017.

The sheriff's office has not released any information about the shooter.

Deputies said they believe the shooting is not connected to Saturday's mass shooting and that it was an isolated event.

Residents were asked to avoid the area.
