Dozens gathered on Wednesday for a rally to support the West Penn Hospital nurses on the eve of final contract negotiations.
According to the SEIU, hundreds of nurses and nurse practitioners voted "overwhelmingly" to authorize a strike.
SEIU made the announcement of the strike just after midnight.
