McKees Rocks shooting suspect found dead; police investigating
A McKees Rocks shooting suspect was found dead on Monday, authorities said.
Edward Sparrow, 22, was found dead in Kennedy Township, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said on Monday.
The Allegheny County Police Department said its homicide unit responded to a request for assistance in McKees Rocks on Sunday morning. Police said that county dispatchers were notified that a woman had been shot along Jane Street just after 11 a.m. on Sunday. The woman was taken to the hospital, and police said she was last said to be in critical but stable condition.
Detectives later determined that the shooting occurred on Saturday evening, but was not reported until the next morning. Through their investigation, detectives identified Sparrow as a suspect.
Just after 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Allegheny County 911 was notified of a single-vehicle crash in the 100 block of Langer Way in Kennedy Township, but when local police arrived on scene, the vehicle was unoccupied.
While investigating the shooting, detectives determined Sparrow was driving the vehicle that crashed, and a witness told detectives that Sparrow had jumped over the guardrail on Langer Way following the crash.
On Monday morning, detectives searched the hillside near the guardrail and found a deceased man matching Sparrow's description. Now, County police are investigating.
