Westmoreland County Transit Authority Increases Rates

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- The New Year has brought new public transit fares in Westmoreland County.

The Westmoreland County Transit Authority instituted a 16.5 percent rate hike on Wednesday.

It means an additional 25 cents for each zone bus rider's travel.

However, it won't change the way most people get around since they have no other option.

"I need the bus," said Bob Croushore, a bus rider. "It helps you get back and forth."

This is the first rate increase since 2008.

It's expected to generate an extra $85,000 during the first half of the year.
