Water Main Break Causes Damage In Overbrook

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For the second time in less than a week, some people in Overbrook are dealing with the aftermath of another water main break.

The six-inch main broke on Morton Street early this morning and sent water gushing out, forming a rapid moving stream.

"I got up at 6:30 [a.m.] and just heard the water running," said Keith Millstine, a resident who had his yard damaged. "I kind of thought it was raining at first. When I looked out the window it was clear. Then, I looked down and saw that."

Unfortunately, the people who live in the home that appears to have gotten the worst of the damage were not home.

"They're not home. This is the second time for them, and they're just a young couple with a young child," said Donna Schneider, a neighbor.

Schneider says last year a line broke, damaging her home and the same neighbors' house. This time around, for her, it's just an inconvenience.

"Turned on the water, cause [I've got to] go to work and can't take a shower," she said. "So, I'm going over to my daughter's to get a shower."

Millstine escaped any major water damage in his basement, but outside is a different story. His backyard has turned into a pond.

Penn-American Water Authority says the water was shut off this morning while repairs were made to the line. Only two customers were affected.
