PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A volunteer firefighter with the Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Department has been fired, after he allegedly made a racist comment on Facebook.
According to the New Pittsburgh Courier, firefighter Josh Korzendorfer was fired after responding to a friend's Facebook post, and allegedly calling [African Americans] a "stupid breed."
VFD #221 Chief Shawn Snyder told the paper that "we do not condone, will not condone, and we will not tolerate any (offensive) comments. We do not discriminate. We are a department of multi-culture."
Snyder said that the fire department cannot be responsible for "every little thing said," but "can deal with what people do with the department's name attached to it."
The paper received an email from a concerned citizen showing the alleged Facebook post. In the alleged post, a friend wrote a comment saying "lets smoke some toochie lol black people come up with the stupidest words for sh**t."
Korzendorfer allegedly responded with, "Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such a Stupid f***ing breed."
The paper contacted fire Chief Synder, and he told them that he couldn't ascertain the validity of the allegation, but that Korzendorfer was terminated.
Snyder also told the paper that the department has a long-standing relationship with the community, especially the Lincoln Park Community Center, and is committed to continuing their partnerships.
