2-year-old boy killed, parents hospitalized after fire breaks out at Clearfield Township home
A 2-year-old boy is dead and his parents remain in the hospital after a fire broke out at a residence in Clearfield Township on Saturday morning.
The boy's parents suffered unspecified injuries and were airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital.
A call came in before 8 a.m. and crews responded in the area of Old Route 422 East, according to a Butler County police spokesperson.
"Everybody's praying for them," said neighbor George W. Geary. "It's just a tragedy."
An autopsy of the boy was planned as of Saturday afternoon, per a statement from Chief Deputy Coroner John Hanovick of the Butler County Coroner's Office.
The close-knit community will never be the same.
"Everybody's gonna feel it," Geary said.
Geary added that the parents clearly loved their boy, their only child.
"They were out there playing all the time in the yard," Geary said. "And, you know, I come home from work and see him out there, and he'd see me come pulling in, and he'd come running out of the driveway and give me a fist bump, you know, high five or something, but yeah, great little kid."
Pennsylvania State Police out of Butler is continuing the investigation.
