Homemade Bomb Detonated In Scottdale

SCOTTDALE (KDKA) – Police arrested a man after a homemade bomb went off in Scottdale.

This happened before noon at the former Central Hotel on Pittsburgh Street.

Police say 22-year old Auston Williamson was spotted in the alley behind the hotel putting balls of foil into a soda bottle.

He then apparently went back inside to the third floor of the building, put detergent in the bottle and placed it on top of a mattress in the hallway until it went off.

People living in the building and those working at a bar downstairs heard the explosion.

Williamson was arrested at a nearby Sheetz around the same time the bomb was going off back at the hotel.

He's being processed this afternoon and will then be taken to the Westmoreland County Jail.
