Amwell Township Standoff Ends Peacefully

AMWELL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A standoff situation in Washington County ended peacefully Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the standoff began around noon at a home on Courson Hill Road. Officers surrounded the home and told neighbors to evacuate.

The incident began as a domestic disturbance call, but police called in a CERT team because the man had firearms in the home.

"Whenever we arrived there and the gentleman refused to come out, obviously to resolve the situation we had to do what we disd today," Pennsylvania State Police Sgt. Eric McKean said.

The suspect has been identified as 59-year-old Andrew Veltri.

According to a report in the Observer-Reporter, Veltri threatened to kill his wife and family and also made threats if police were called to the scene.

Veltri surrendered peacefully around 4 p.m. and is being arraigned on one count of terroristic threats.\

He is currently being lodged in the Washington County Jail on $100,000 bond.
