Sources: CEO Bland To Resign Or Be Fired From Port Authority

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A change may be coming to the head office at the Port Authority of Allegheny County.

Sources tell KDKA's Marty Griffin that negotiations are underway now for the resignation of Port Authority CEO Steve Bland.

KDKA's Marty Griffin reports he is told that this is a forced resignation or Bland faces termination on Friday by a vote of Port Authority board members.

Behind the scenes, there's reportedly been fighting for months over Bland and his job.

Sources say there are enough votes on the nine-member board to terminate Bland.

Various reasons being given including bad relationships with Harrisburg, bad relations with the union, fare problems, tunnel connector problems and fare collection problems.

Meanwhile, sources tell KDKA's Marty Griffin that Bland is hoping he can salvage enough board votes by Friday to save his job before the vote.

Bland has been CEO of the Port Authority since 2006. He has a 20-year public transportation career.

His current contract expires in June of 2014.

There's been no comment tonight from the Port Authority. And several calls to Bland have not been returned.
