RiverRide 100 Raising Money For The Arthritis Foundation

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - One hundred miles, along five rivers, all in one day to raise money and awareness for the Arthritis Foundation.

Jeff Krakoff and four of his friends will be biking the Great Allegheny Passage from Rockwood to The Point in Downtown. The ride will be sponsored by Krakoff Communications Inc. and Steelcoast Creative.

"We are just having fun and mixing two passions - one being biking on the trials and the other doing something good," Krakoff said.

Last year, the bike riders went from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. and raised over $6,000 over their five day trip.

For this year's one day trip, Krakoff came up with the idea to call the event RiverRide 100 because during the ride, bikers will follow the Casselman, Youghiogheny and Monongahela rivers for a scenic route finishing up where the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers meet creating the Ohio.

"A lot of us who did this last year, me for example, I didn't bike for decades and I just started little by little, 10 miles, 20, 30," Krakoff said. "And it is such a gorgeous ride; and I would say to anyone listening, if it's something you want to do, don't think you have to be this super pro athlete, you can go at your own pace, you can pick parts of it. There's lots of different terrain you will see start to finish."

Krakoff was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 20 years ago and feels like biking helps him find a mental and physical boost to his condition.

Arthritis affects one in every five adults and 300,000 children, and is the leading cause of disability in the United States. The Arthritis Foundation's mission is to raise awareness and reduce to impact on the lives of people with arthritis.
