2 Dogs Found Covered In Tar, Leaking From Abandoned Plant
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There are lots of questions after a second dog was found covered in thick, hot tar.
A boxer-beagle mix named Miley was found in East Liverpool, Ohio, not far from where her brother, Oden, was rescued over the weekend.
Oden was found Sunday near Michigan Avenue. He was taken to Ashleigh's Dog Grooming at Safari Dog in Chester, W, Va., where it took workers nine hours to remove the tar from his fur.
Rescuers found his sister Tuesday night in the same area.
There is an abandoned plant in East Liverpool where tar is leaking.
Ashleigh Yoho Deal, of Ashleigh's Dog Grooming, says this is a danger to the whole community.
"This is a public hazard for these animals, if children get in them, it's letting off a lot of chemicals, so this needs to be addressed. It needs to be cleaned up. We can't be doing this for these dogs. It's horrible, they shouldn't have to go through this," she said.
Oden was taken to an emergency vet in Robinson Township, where he was treated for neck pain, severe burns and an eye infection.
Miley will see a vet too, once she's cleaned up.
Yoho Deal says this company needs to be held responsible.
"We're hoping nobody put them in this substance. We're hoping they just wondered on to it. But, in reality, the company that owns this property, that left it, is negligent, is the one that caused this to the dogs," she said.
At this time, East Liverpool Police don't believe anything intentional was done but continue to look into it as both dogs recover.
Ashleigh is looking for donations to help with the dogs' medical expense. They need towels, baby oil and even WD40 to help with cleaning up the dogs. They are also looking for donations to help with Oden and Miley's medical care.
