Punxsutawney Phil Emerges, Predicts 6 More Weeks Of Winter

PUNXSUTAWNEY (KDKA) -- Happy Groundhog Day!

Punxsutawney, Pa., was bustling today as thousands of people gathered at Gobbler's Knob this morning to hear Phil's annual forecast.

However, it wasn't the prediction that many people were hoping to hear as the furry prognosticator saw his shadow.

That's right; it looks like we're in for six more weeks of winter!

Phil emerged from his oak stump home just before 7:30 a.m. and delivered his forecast.

"After casting an appreciative glance to the thousands of faithful followers in attendance, Phil proclaimed - as I look at the crowd on Gobbler's Knob - many shadows do I see, six more weeks of winter it must be," read one of the members of Phil's Inner Circle.

The crowd at Gobbler's Knob could be heard grumbling when his prediction was read aloud.

Security was stepped up for this year's festivities because Gov. Tom Corbett was also there for the annual event.
