Pittsburgh Hosting BeerFest & Breweriana Conventions This Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Roll out those beer cases and prime the taps! Stage AE on the North Shore is preparing for the second annual Pittsburgh Summer Beerfest.

"There will be 8,000 people here over the two nights," says events director Craig Johnson. "And they'll be sampling 300 craft beers from down the street and around the country."

Proceeds from ticket sales benefit Animal Rescue Partners.

Before you go down to the Beerfest, however, you might want to stop in Cranberry for the 42nd annual East Coast Breweriana Collectors Convention.

Organizer Bud Hundenski says Pittsburgh was chosen because, "We've had a resurgence of brands, the popularity of the brands, not just with the micros, but the regional brands."

Convention goers sample "Pumpkin Ale" by the rejuvenated Fort Pitt Beer.

Exhibitor Richard Ober searched for 25 years for a tray picturing his great, great grandfather's brewery, which later became Eberhardt and Ober.

"Nobody knew where it was," he says. "And it finally showed up here Tuesday night. It's a family piece, and you just can't beat it."

The building is now home to Penn Brewing.

Pittsburgh's Tech Beer survived Prohibition by selling ice cream. Each piece of memorabilia has a story to tell.
