Pitt To Play In Inaugural Super Six Series

PITTSBURGH—Pitt's women's basketball team will play in the inaugural 'Super Six Series' in November, as six conferences have joined forces to create the women's basketball challenge. The Panthers are one of two Big East teams invited, while the other conferences participating include the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Southeastern and Pacific-10.

In the first game of the exclusive series, Pitt will travel to Minnesota on Nov. 17, for an 8 p.m. contest at Williams Arena. The game, which is to be nationally televised on the Big Ten Network, marks the first road contest of the season for the Panthers.

Pitt is coming off its fifth post-season appearance in eight years under Head Coach Agnus Berenato. The Panthers return five seniors including the 2010 Big East Rebounding Champion Chelsea Cole and 2009-10 All-Big East selection Jania Sims.

"We are honored that Pitt has been selected to represent the Big East in the inaugural Super Six Series," Berenato said. "It is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to travel and compete against teams from other top conferences in the country.

"Minnesota has a rich tradition and we are looking forward to competing against the Gophers. This will be a great matchup between the Big East and Big Ten."

Also representing the Big East, Notre Dame will host UCLA on Nov. 18 at the newly renovated Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

The Super Six Series is a two-year contract that begins this season. Two teams from each conference will compete against one another, resulting in six games played in on-campus venues. Each year, the leagues will have one home game and one away game, with games to be played during the first two weeks of the season.
