Pirates Sign Pitcher Julio To Minors
Pittsburgh (KDKA) - After passing on pitcher Brian Fuentes, the Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly signed reliever Jorge Julio to a minor league contract. The signing was first reported by Lider en Deportes, a Venezuelan newspaper.
The 31-year-old Julio has not pitched in the majors since 2009 when he pitched in 13 games for the Milwaukee Brewers. Since then Julio has been pitching in the Atlantic League for the Bridgeport Bluefish.
During his time with the Bluefish he pitched in 55 innings, striking out 57 and earning a 1.15 ERA.
Julio has pitched nine seasons in the majors, going 17-34 with a 4.43 ERA in his career. In his 467 inning pitched, he gave up 65 home runs, walked 233 and struck out 448.
