Pirates No Longer Pursuing Pitcher Brian Fuentes
Pittsburgh (KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Pirates are still in search of a closer now that talks with pitcher Brian Fuentes have apparently fallen apart.
According to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the Pirates declined to pursue Fuentes after he was unwilling to lower his $5 million a year asking price.
Fuentes is seeking a two- to three- year deal; and his asking price is about half of what he made last year. His previous two-year deal with the L.A. Angels was estimated at about $17.5 million.
Fuentes pitched for the Angels and Minnesota Twins last season, pitching in 48 total games with an ERA of 2.81. He struck out 47 in 48 innings pitched, but allowed 31 hits.
