Pirates' Jason Grilli Talks About His Return To The Team

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates' closer Jason Grilli has been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list.

Earlier, he joined The Cook and Poni Show to discuss getting back on the field and the release of his new book.

"It feels good to get back with my teammates," Grilli said.

He is happy to be back with a bullpen that has struggled somewhat this year after being so dominant last season. Grilli says that they haven't hit their stride yet, but it's close and this team is ready to start winning.

"'Cause we're good and we believe that," Grilli said. "Nobody was talking when we were in the playoffs last year about games in April and May."

Grilli said the team got off to a slow start last year and still made the playoffs.

"Once we get hot, nobody will be worried about it," Grilli said.

He is not sure if he will jump right back into the closer role, but will accept whatever role he will be asked to do to help the bullpen and his team get back on track.

"I'm coming back to help the team," Grilli said. "No matter what is asked of me. The guys have held it down, and I can't wait to join them and do what we do best."

Grilli also talked to the guys about the release of starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez saying it was tough seeing him with tears in his eyes saying his goodbyes, but he doesn't think this is the end for Wandy.

Grilli had his own struggles trying to recover from a serious injury in his 30s and it becomes a focal point for the story he tells in his new book, "Just My Game," which was released yesterday.
