Woman Suffers Burns In Tarentum Apartment Fire

TARENTUM (KDKA) - One person was hurt during a fire at an apartment complex in Tarentum.

The fire started around 2:15 a.m. on Friday inside an apartment on Creek Street.

Flames and smoke were coming from the apartment when crews arrived. Assistant Chief Terry Chambon says the fire damaged two bedrooms a bathroom and a hallway in the apartment.

A mother and daughter were inside the apartment at the time of the fire. The mother suffered some minor burns to her hands. She was treated for her injuries at the scene by paramedics.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal's office is looking into the cause of the fire.

The apartment building was evacuated, but most residents have been allowed back in their homes.

Assistant Chief Chambon says the remodeled county housing apartments help to minimize fires like these.

"Each of these apartments are isolated in a concrete block. That's what's nice about this county housing here, fire can't spread from one apartment to another," says Chambon. "Smoke can travel through openings, but fire itself is not going to go anywhere."

He said several other apartments at the complex had smoke damage. People who live in those apartments will be allowed back in after the apartments are deodorized.
