New Charges Emerge In Washington County Shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's been three years since two people were shot and killed at a local bar.
Tonight there's a break in the investigation. One man was already charged in the shooting at a now-closed bar in Washington County in 2009.
The second defendant is at the Washington County jail. The first defendant was arrested three years ago. His trial is set to begin very soon.
According to police papers, last week the first defendant named an accomplice.
Twenty-three-year old Gregory Avery Jr. is now charged with two counts of homicide and conspiracy.
"I had no idea," his father, Gregory Avery Sr., said. "I don't know what's going on. It's been what, three years ago? I really don't have no comment. I don't know what's going on. I'm trying to find out right now."
When asked if he thinks his son could have been involved in the shooting, Avery Sr. responded simply: "No."
Two were shot and killed near the former Cabaret West Bar in Washington. A third person, Lindsay Jolly, was wounded.
Police quickly charged Phillip Whitlock but now, three years later, Whitlock has named Avery as his accomplice.
Jolly said she knew all of the defendants and victims involved in the case.
"I was friends with all of them, actually," Jolly said. "We all grew up together. We were about the same age."
Police would not comment on whether there was a plea arrangement for Whitlock naming an accomplice.
