Mets Beat Writers React To Marlon Byrd, John Buck Trade To Pirates

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pirates made a splash move today in acquiring Mets Outfielder Marlon Byrd and Catcher John Buck.

Starkey, Miller and Mueller caught up with Mets beat writers Anthony DiComo of MLB.com and Ed Coleman of WFAN in New York to get their thoughts on what they'll bring to the team.

DiComo talked about Byrd's bat obviously being an upgrade for the Pirates as well as his glove.

"Byrd is solid, he's not going to blow you away with his routes or his range or anything he does, but he's got a really, really good throwing arm which is probably his best asset," he said. "I believe he had seven or eight outfield assists which is near the top of the league and he catches what he gets to."

Coleman had nothing but great things to say about the year Byrd is having and what he and Buck can offer the Pirates.

"He's turned into an everyday player, a mainstay in the middle of their lineup," Coleman said about Byrd. "He has a new career high in home runs, 71 RBI's thus far, 25 doubles.  He's been more than adequate defensively out in the outfield, so he's played terrific here. You're getting two pretty good players and two veteran players to help you down the stretch."
