Man Wounded In McKees Rocks Shooting Overnight

McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- One man remains in the hospital today and another man is now facing charges following a late night shooting in McKees Rocks.

Police arrested 31-year-old Kenneth Barner early Friday morning in connection with the shooting.

The victim, identified by authorities as 25-year-old Thomas Jamal Rickey, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. at a home on Marion Street.

According to investigators, the two got into an argument.

Police say the two knew each other - that the victim's sister was dating and living with Barner at the home where the shooting took place.

"It's my understanding that there's been a month long feud between the two," said Chief Robert Cifrulak, of the McKees Rocks Police Department. "We don't know the particulars though about what they were arguing about."

Barner was at the house when police arrived. After interviewing Barner, police say he's claiming the shooting was an accident.

"Barner's claiming that the weapon was in Rickey's pocket. In the ensuing fight, he somehow reached, found the weapon, and squeezed off a shot," said Chief Cifrulak. "Accidentally."

Allegheny County homicide detectives assisted McKees Rocks in the investigation.

A nine-millimeter gun was found at the scene, but it appears that someone may have been trying to get rid of it.

"Apparently, the weapon that was used was found hidden in the yard," Chief Cifrulak said.

Barner has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.
