Man Pulled From a Hillside in Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar
PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- Rescue crews had a tricky rescue along a hillside in the Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Around 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, the crews were called to the 7100 block of Highland Drive for reports of a man who was stuck over a hillside.
The hillside is about a 20 foot drop. It happened not far from the Pittsburgh Job Corps building.
"Tt wasn't a straight drop. He rolled," Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson Sonya Toler said.
Officials say he was drunk when the accident happened.
"There was a guard that saw him fall," Toler said.
Thankfully, that guard was there and called Pittsburgh Police, who stayed with the man until paramedics arrived.
"He was unconscious when the paramedics got to him," Toler said.
Rescue crews had to use a quad and a medic ATV to get to the man. Once they got to him, they loaded him onto a stretcher and used a rope to carry him from the woods. It was around 12:45 a.m. when this happened Wednesday, and very dark in the woods. Therefore, crews had to use flashlights and spotlights so they could see what they were doing. The rescue mission took about 20 minutes.
"Any time they can utilize their training to help citizens get out of a bad situation it's a good day for them," Toler mentioned.
The man was taken by ambulance to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital to get treated. He's expected to be okay.
