Lawrenceville Holds Annual Memorial Day Parade
LAWRENCEVILLE (KDKA) - Lawrenceville pulls out all the stops for their annual Memorial Day Parade.
This year, the parade brought out lots of families to salute the soldiers of past and present wars.
"It's heartwarming to know what they did on our behalf to allow us to live the life that we live," Aggie Brook said.
The annual parade is dedicated to the men and women who served our country and paid the ultimate price.
"Hopefully they appreciate what we do and keep supporting us as much as they can," Richard Pochiba with the 336 MP Battalion said.
Brittni Kennedy just completed basic training and is anxious to serve.
"I want to serve for all the people who served before me. My father was in for 10 years and I feel like I need to honor him," Kennedy said.
Some of this year's participants were dressed in Civil War and World War I uniforms.
"If you don't know the history of your country, you don't know why we're here, how we got here and you cannot project where we're going," Vietnam War veteran Dave Burnett said.
Parade organizer and First Sergeant Jim McGinley wants to remember families who lost loved ones in the wars.
"One of the things I think is forgotten is the mothers of these soldiers, Marines, sailors that are forgotten and have to carry the burden for 10, 20 years or longer," McGinley said.
The parade ended with a wreath being placed at the War Memorial in the Allegheny Cemetery.
