It's going to be a pleasant day throughout the Pittsburgh area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's going to be a pleasant day throughout the Pittsburgh area ahead of more snow in the forecast tomorrow.
Any Alert Days Ahead? Tuesday is a First Alert Weather Day due to timing of snow. Two potential First Alert Weather Days are in place for Wednesday and Saturday.
Aware: Yesterday snapped a stretch of 7 days in a row with below-average temperatures. When looking at January 19-25, this year was the 10th coldest stretch we've ever seen for those 7 days. We are also currently 13th when it comes to the coldest January on record.
While you were sleeping wind advisories were issued for higher elevations for our next system that arrives tonight. While wind gusts of up to 35 mph in Pittsburgh and up to 50 mph will be possible for higher elevations, it's the little bit of snow we can also expect that has me the most concerned.
Snow showers will arrive just after midnight with snow chances sticking around through at least 8 a.m. Some of the heaviest snow showers are expected to arrive right as the morning commute is getting going.
Some of these snow showers may be strong enough to see snow squall warnings being issued. Due to the time it is moving in, morning commuters along with road crews will have to share roads for a few hours.
Let's get back to the windy conditions expected on Tuesday. I actually expect we will see two back-to-back wind events with the first happening early on Wednesday. We will then see an additional wind storm pushing through on Wednesday morning through the afternoon. The second windstorm should be stronger than the first with the strongest winds expected Wednesday morning through noon.
On top of strong winds, there will also be another round of snow sliding through on Wednesday with snow showers sticking around through the day. It does look like temperatures will be in the mid-30s while it is snowing, limiting the impact of snow on area roads.
Looking at the extended forecast, I have highs hitting the mid-40s on Friday with rain, and then mixed precipitation, finally turning to snow expected on Saturday.
