BURGETTSTOWN (KDKA) - Police are continuing to investigate after a gun was found in a locker at a Washington County school on Monday.

According to a statement from the Burgettstown Area Middle/High School, an unloaded handgun and ammunition were found inside a backpack in the locker.

The gun was turned over to the Smith Township Police Department.

After an interview with the student, it was determined that there was no malicious intent by bringing the gun to school.

Information about the student and any disciplinary action has not been released.

The district sent home a letter to parents about the incident.
