Giant Ducky Makes Splash In Pittsburgh's Culinary Scene

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Hundreds of thousands of people are flocking to Pittsburgh for a "ducky" dose of joy and grandeur, but our giant inflatable inhabitant has also inspired the city's culinary scene.

And so have the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Everyone wants a piece of the art and the action, so at establishments like Six Penn Kitchen, they're making "Bucs and Ducks" part of the menu.

KDKA's Kym Gable caught up with Pastry Chef Lisa O'Connor.

"(We) just decided to do something fun because of the duck. Everyone's jumping on the duck and they've been selling really well. We've been making a couple dozen a day," said O'Connor.

The restaurant also has a nightly Pirates Pierogi Race.

"And we keep a tally on how many we sell, so the servers will run up to me at the host stand and say I sold another, and I go over and tally them up," explained Six Penn Host Daniel Haas.

The chef at NOLA On The Square is putting some real quack in his cuisine.

"It's duck month," exclaimed Chef De Cuisine Leonard Pisano. "We've probably gone through four cases of duck."

Bakeries, like Prantl's in Market Square are whipping up their own creative confections, like baseball-shaped cookies and cupcakes.

"We've been selling out every day, which is a nice problem to have," said Co-Owner Lara Bruhn with a laugh.

"We had a ton of ducks. They left very very quickly. They were a big hit," she added. "When you get an opportunity to boost a team or a theme like ducks, you don't want to miss it."
