PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – For Matt and Cassie Snedecor, everyday life brings many challenges.
Their 8-year-old son Jack is severely autistic.
"He just eats plaster right off the wall," said Snedecor.
Things like that are common occurrences the Snedecor's have to look out for, which scares the daylights out of them.
"Rocking so hard in anger, there's a hole in the wall," Snedecor said. "So I have a hole to patch. He has a bruised head. Unbelievable."
The family is in constant worry for his safety, but now there is hope for a better life with a very special dog.
"Something like this happens, it uplifts you so much," said Snedecor.
So the family wanted a highly trained service dog for Jack – a dog that can protect him, guide him, even rescue him in the woods if Jack runs away.
That dog is very expensive.
The family created a special video, a Facebook page and a GoFundMe site to raise money, then a close friend sent her to KDKA.
Between their efforts and KDKA's, the family now has $24,000 for the purchase of the dog and enough left over to direct money toward one or maybe two other families.
"It really has restored my faith in society and the kindness of strangers," said Snedecor.
