Franklin Regional Seniors Prepare For Graduation

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) – Almost two months after the April 9 stabbings, Franklin Regional High School seniors are saying goodbye to the school.

The commencement ceremony started at 6:45 p.m. Friday at the high school's stadium.

A total of 306 students are graduating in the class of 2014.  Signs congratulating the class have popped up all along Route 22.

The graduating class usually invites one guest to join them on the field and watch the ceremony.  This year, the senior class officers invited all of the school district's elementary and middle school teachers to be their special guests at the ceremony as a show of solidarity and recognition of the stabbing spree that united the Franklin Regional academic community.

On Thursday night, Pittsburgh Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle spoke to 500 graduating seniors and their families at Franklin Regional High School, praising the seniors and the community for staying strong after the April 9 stabbing.

"It's a love letter from me to you tonight," Hurdle said. "You're worth it. You're more than worth it."
