Former Pirates' Outfielder Passes Away In California
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Gino Cimoli, an outfielder on the 1960 World Championship Pittsburgh Pirates, has died.
According to the Placer County Coroner's Office in California, Cimoli passed away early Saturday morning in Roseville, Calif.
The outfielder was an unsung hero in game number seven of the 1960 World Series.
As a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, his single started a five-run rally that kept the Pirates in the game.
Of course, it was Bill Mazeroski's bottom of the ninth homer that gave the Pirates the championship.
Cimoli was 81.
