Former Baseball League President Accused Of Stealing $287,000

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Jeffrey Rosenthal used to be president of the Taylor Allderdice Alumni Association. Now he is in jail, facing multiple criminal charges, including theft, forgery, receiving stolen property and deceptive business practices.

Detectives with the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office are accusing the 63 year old of stealing from organizations he was involved with, like the Taylor Allderdice Alumni Association, the Taylor Allderdice JV Baseball Team and the 14th Ward Baseball Association.

According to detectives, Rosenthal wrote 745 checks to himself from the respective organizations' accounts from September of 2009 until October of 2015 for a grand total of $287,995.57.

A KDKA news crew went to Rosenthal's home to try to speak with him, but nobody answered the door. Neighbors we spoke to said they do not know him well and had no comment.

Pittsburgh Public Schools also had no comment, but only a clarification that the school had no oversight of the alumni association until after Rosenthal retired in October of 2015.

We reached out to the commissioner of the baseball league but have not heard back.

Detectives said Rosenthal systematically depleted the organizations' bank accounts to help pay for his own personal expenses like his mortgage, credit card bills, vehicles, and utilities.

According to detectives, a local doctor was also victimized through Rosenthal forging signatures and inflating numbers in a fundraising effort.
