PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It is back to class for college students across the area.
On Tuesday, freshmen arrived at Duquesne University. They're just the latest round of college students to head to Pittsburgh, ready to start the fall semester.
On move-in day at Duquesne, 1,275 freshmen - the class of 2018 - spent the morning unloading and unpacking.
"I can't wait for the experience," said Sam Froehlich, of Robinson Township. "I think it's going to be, it's completely different, and I like change. It will be cool."
For Julien Perreault, home is Branchburg, New Jersey, about five and half hours away from Pittsburgh.
"Excited, but nervous," added Perreault. "It's a new experience away from home, so it's always a little different than what you're used to back at home."
"It's exciting, it's our second one in college, so we're empty nesters now," said Marc Perreault, Julien's father. "It's going to be interesting; it's exciting for him, too."
Dozens of student volunteers helped to make sure the move-in process went well.
From directing traffic to transporting bins and boxes into the dorms, their efforts were appreciated, especially by parents who had to do a lot of the packing up at home.
"Guys are disorganized, but moms are not, so I've been packing all along," said Kim Froehlich, Sam's mother. "It was funny because he's like where is this, where is that, and I was like, I already put it away, so we've been building a collection down in the basement."
The staff at Duquesne has been gearing up for freshman move-in day for months. Their goal, to make sure the students have a warm welcome.
"It is very exciting, it kind of motivates us because we can see their faces and this is a life-changing experience for them and we want today to be special for them," said Sharon Oelschlager, the director of residence life.
All of the freshmen should be moved in by the end of Tuesday, then the upperclassmen arrive on Friday and Saturday. Classes here begin on Monday.
