Duquesne Dukes Beat Norfolk State 95-73
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) — The Duquesne Dukes opened the new year with a 95-73 win over Norfolk State.
Sophomore Sean Johnson came off the bench to lead Duquesne with 19 points, five rebounds and steal. The loss gave Norfolk State their 10th straight loss.
Johnson scored nine points in the final 7:01 of the first half, to widen Duquesne's lead to 43-28.
Duquesne had six players with double digit points. Damian Saunders (14), Bill Clark (13), B.J. Monteiro (11) and Eric Evans and Joel Wright each scored 10.
The Dukes had an advantage from the free throw line, scoring 36 of their 95 points on 45 chances.
Monteiro's three-point play gave Duquesne a 52-30 lead with 16:08 left in the game. The Dukes led by at least 20 points the rest of the way.
Pendarvis Williams scored 16 points and Kyle O'Quinn had 15 points and nine rebounds for Norfolk State. They have not played at home since Nov. 30.
