Crews Work To Repair Hays Water Main Break

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Gushing water caused big problems Saturday for some residents in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood.

According to emergency dispatchers, a water main break happened near the intersection of Hillburn and Wheeling Streets around 10 a.m.

It flooded streets, back yards and at least one basement.

"Water line broke; I heard water running, I checked and my basement was flooded with water," said Edward Link of Hays. "The washer, dryer, the furnace, hot water tank. It's probably all gone."

Neighbors complain they've had more than a half dozen breaks in the past year.

"We're tired of this. Two homes right here are flooded, the telephone pole is leaning more towards their home," said Darla Pryle, of Hays. "We want them to come out, and fix our road and fix these two telephone poles before someone gets badly injured."

Pennsylvania American Water Company crews and Duquesne Light were both called to the scene.

There's no word yet on when that line will be repaired.
