CANONSBURG, Pa. (KDKA/AP) — Republican Rick Saccone's camp is exploring "all legal options" as the Pennsylvania congressional race comes down to the wire.

The race between Saccone and Democrat Conor Lamb remains too close to call. Elections officials spent hours counting absentee ballots early Wednesday morning. Their tally added to Lamb's vote total.

Elections officials in Greene County were set to start counting absentee ballots there later Wednesday morning.

Meghan Schiller's Report:

A consultant with Saccone's campaign told KDKA-TV reporter Ralph Iannotti, "We're exploring ALL legal options."

Saccone took the stage around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night to thank his supporters.

"It's not over yet. We're still fighting the fight," he said. "We're gonna fight all the way to the end. You know I never give up."

Lamb spoke to his supporters just before 12:45 a.m. as absentee votes were still being counted.

"It took longer than we thought, but we did it," he said, even though results had not yet been released.

Nearly three hours after polls closed and with 100 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial results had Lamb leading Saccone by fewer than 700 votes.

Saccone Supporters Watching Close 18th Congressional District Race:

That margin increased after Allegheny County's absentee votes were counted. Mayor Bill Peduto said on Twitter that a result wouldn't be announced until Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh-area district has gotten national attention as a barometer of the November midterm elections.

Lamb Supporters Await Results Of Tight Congressional Election:

President Donald Trump won the district by almost 20 percentage points in 2016.
