Bomb scare disrupts Pittsburgh Marathon

A suspicious device placed near the finish line of the Pittsburgh Marathon prompted police to delay and detour the race after leaders had finished the course Sunday morning.
The device, which was inside a small microwave oven, was placed on the sidewalk at 11th Street and Penn Avenue near the Greyhound bus station. It was spotted around 7:20 a.m.
After leaders finished, Pittsburgh police detoured the final segment of the race course, blocking off several streets.
The bomb squad used a robot to detonate the device. It was removed from the scene and the area was reopened.
There were no injuries.
Police are looking for who left the device and are going to review the surveillance video from security cameras in the area.
It is unclear what exactly the microwave contained.
The discovery of the suspected explosive device in downtown Pittsburgh occurred after a car bomb was found in New York's Times Square Saturday night.
Kipyegon Kirui, a 29-year-old from Kenya, won the men's marathon with a time of 2:17:12. Alena Vinitskaya, a 36-year-old from Russia, won the woman's marathon, completing the race in 2:42:33.
About 5,000 participants ran the full marathon.
