PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The biggest winter storm of the season is expected to arrive this evening and will leave varying amounts of accumulation in our area.

The difference between a lot of snow and not will be the matter of a few miles.

The heaviest snowfall will occur during the overnight hours into Saturday morning.

"There's going to be a very sharp cut off to the snow as we head into [Friday] night and on Saturday," said KDKA-TV's Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla. "That line is probably going to come in near or right around Route 422. So, New Castle, Butler and Kittanning may not see a lot in the way of anything of snowfall."

As it stands, a general 1 to 3 inches can be expected from Pittsburgh up to central Butler County.

As you head further south, the snow totals will increase.

About 4 to 6 inches can be expected from Pittsburgh to northwestern portions of Fayette and Greene counties as well as southern Washington County.

Areas even further south and east can expect 7 to 10 inches.

Verszyla said the snow showers will end by mid-day in and around Pittsburgh. For counties to the east, like Fayette, Indiana and Westmoreland, he says it take a little longer to end, but it should be out by mid- to late-afternoon.
