Best Fall Patio Bars To Watch The Sunset

By Daniel Cooper

Looking for an outdoor environment to enjoy a cool drink or nice meal? How about that perfect time to watch the sunset? These are the restaurants and bars that feature a superb outdoor
patio or rooftop to enjoy a cool night.

The Library

2302 East Carson Street
Pittsburgh, PA
(412) 381-0517
Hours: Weekdays 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Weekends 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Southside features an endless selection of bars and restaurants that can be overwhelming for the average visitor. One of the lesser known of these is The Library. Featuring a signature drink list that includes a "Dracula" with Jim Beam Black Bourbon, DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker and cranberry juice, it is one of the most diverse menus in the city. The best part of the café is the outdoor rooftop-patio to enjoy a late night drink while watching a sunset and soaking up the atmosphere. You can sit down with a drink you wouldn't find at any other pub on the strip and enjoy the cool night with spectacular view. The menu features standard pub fare from wings to custom pizzas.

Pusadee's Garden

5321 Butler St
Pittsburgh, PA 15201
(412) 781-8724
Open Tue-Fri 11:30am-2:30pm, 5pm-10pm; Weekends 12pm-10pm
Website: www.pusadeesgarden.com

Do you enjoy the taste of Thai food? The spicy flavor and aroma of a number 10? Pusadee's Garden is located in Lawrenceville right off Butler Street. As the name suggests, it features one of the most pristine outdoor garden patios you will see in the city. With a sturdy wood exterior, the garden features hanging vines with plants and vegetation surrounding and overtop. At night the garden is lit by lanterns for a wonderful ambiance while having a relaxing dinner atmosphere. The restaurant is BYOB, so carry your best bottle of wine or a six pack of Thai beer for a small corkage fee. The food is better than average and the sunsets on a cool evening are irresistible.

Six Penn Kitchen

146 6th Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15222
(412) 566-7366

On the opposite end of Tonic downtown is Six Penn Kitchen right across from the Benedum Center. While a bar runs across half of the restaurant, the best asset of Six Penn Kitchen is the rooftop bar. One of the few rooftop lounges in the city, it attracts professionals from Pittsburgh Pirate fans to Theater goers. The view alone is worth the price of a single drink. But to take it in after a show or game is even better. Singles interact and enjoy the cool atmosphere, which reflects more of a lounge environment with seating and tables than a bar. Many come before and after plays in the cultural district, while spending time in the bar or upstairs.

Hyeholde Restaurant

1615 Coraopolis Heights Rd.
Moon Township, PA 15108
(412) 264-3116
Hours: Weekdays 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Sat – 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A short ride outside of the city is the Hyehold Restaurant in Moon Township. Featuring a mansion converted into a dining facility, the Hyehold is one of the most elegant and private dining halls I have ever seen. Each room is partitioned off with exclusive discretion allowing the couples or groups an unspoiled surrounding. They not only have the best indoor dining facilities, but also offer an outdoor seating patio that is bar none. Surrounded by woods and tranquility, the outside is a beautiful setting to have a dinner and drink. But one of the more unique offerings of Hyehold is picnic meals out on the lawn. With dinner menus described as the New England, Southern, Southwestern and Northwestern, it brings in the regional flavor for each meal offered. With a picnic basket and blanket included with the meal, a bottle of wine goes quite well at the sunsets.

Local Bar and Kitchen

16th and East Carson Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15203
(412) 431-8800
Hours: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily
Website: www.localpgh.com

Another location off Carson Street in the Southside is the Local Bar and Kitchen. It features one of the largest rooftop decks in Pittsburgh. With a scenic view of the Southside, Local brings in a professional crowd to enjoy outside dining and drink specials. The bar has over 50 craft beers on tap for patrons. This is one of the newer restaurants in the city so the menu has changed a few times. Lately it has been on top of its game with a good menu and wait staff.
