Keeping your dollar local: it's what we all should strive to do. Dine local, shop local and heck, even drink locally made brews. Pittsburgh is world renowned for a variety of things — let's get our liquid hops selection on the map, too.
Carson Street Deli and Craft Beer Bar
1507 E. Carson St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15203
If you're looking for great, local beers, craft items and outstanding IPAs to go with your sandwich, look no further. Of course you'll visit Carson Street Deli with your favorite beer in mind, but did you know that for $7, you can pick any four beers to sample in a flight? This way you can experience new flavors, still enjoy your favorite and leave with a totally newfound experience. Try all of CSD's fabulous hand-crafted items, like pizzas, panini and flatbread creations, too.
D's SixPax and Dogz
1118 S. Braddock Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15218
The commitment that D's has to local beers and breweries is second to none. Walk into the establishment's massive beer cave and prepare to hear cherubs sing as all of your hops fantasies come true. Grab a local Helltown, sit down for a delicious, charmingly eccentric hot dog (like mac 'n cheese or the Angry Tiki with pineapple, bacon, hoison and Double Dip sauce) and snarf happily. The best part about D's is that you can create your own custom six-pack with any available bottle or can with no additional charge.
800 Vinial St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15212
This wouldn't be a 'best local beer' list without Pittsburgh's own preeminent brewer, Penn Brewery. With over 20 IPA, regular and seasonal beers to choose from, Penn Brewery has you covered in every way. From light ales, to heavy, dark pilsners, the establishment can provide you with any number of beer combos, and also offers a delectable menu. Enjoy authentic Polish pierogies, German brats, Hungarian goulas and Scotch eggs, or scrumptious steak salads and kielbasa Reubens.
The Church Brew Works
3525 Liberty Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15201
With so many fine beers to choose from, picking one will prove to be rather difficult. The brewery, cleverly located inside of a renovated church (with its original pews and pulpit), takes 'beer religion' to a whole new level. Take CBW's celestial beer, for example. Brewed in-house, with a clean, light citrus flavor, the celestial beer is a fan-favorite. All of CBW's home-brewed beers are exquisite, especially when paired with the restaurant's fine, German-inspired menu options.
Over The Bar Bicycle Cafe
2518 E. Carson St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15203
Eight local brews on tap, scrumptious bites and two convenient locations make this the perfect joint to wrap up this 'best of' list. OTB even has fun, bike-inspired décor, which makes it the perfect place to stop for a bite and a brew after a long trek on your racer. Inarguably, OTB's beer selection is rather excellent. For the quality of beer on tap, it is one of the more inexpensive bars in the city.
