Abraham Suspended For Season

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Robert Morris University has acted quickly in dealing with star guard Karon Abraham's arrest over the weekend.

Robert Morris basketball coach Andy Toole announced today that Abraham has been suspended for the 2011-12 season due to a violation of athletic department policy.

"It's unfortunate that these measures had to be taken, however we feel it is as much our job to prepare Karon for success in life as it is to prepare him for success on the basketball court," Toole said. "We hold our student-athletes within our program and at Robert Morris University to very high standards, and if those standards aren't met there are consequences. Being a Division I student-athlete is a privilege and should be treated as such. It should not be taken for granted."

Abraham was cited over the weekend for underage drinking.

Abraham appeared in 23 games for the Colonials as a sophomore in 2010-11, averaging a team-high 13.9 points per game while also topping RMU in three-point field goals (59) and free-throw percentage (.851).

He missed four games early in the 2010-11 campaign due to a violation of team rules and sat out the final five games of the year after suffering a torn achilles in his right foot in the opening minutes of a 62-60 victory at Monmouth Feb. 19, 2011.

"We have policies within the athletic department at Robert Morris University regarding student-athlete behavior," RMU Department of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., said. "Whether you are the fourth-string punter or the starting guard on the basketball team, the policy applies to everyone. We hope Karon can make use of this time to adjust his behavior and attitude."
